The hotel

Architecture in conversation with movement

Windrush uses sheltered courtyards, deep window reveals and solid local materials to make the wind visible without letting it dominate the stay. The editorial library explores regional craft and landscape, while the dining room brings guests together around one evolving menu.

“Design matters most when it changes how a landscape is noticed.”

01

How the building responds to open land

The hotel uses mass, depth and planted courtyards to create shelter while preserving long outward views. Windows are not simply large; each is positioned for light, wind and privacy. Guests experience the architecture through comfortable daily moments such as breakfast in a protected garden or reading beside a deep reveal rather than through formal design tours alone.

02

The makers behind the rooms

Furniture, ceramics and woven pieces come from a small group of regional makers and are selected for regular hotel use. The craft library explains materials and process without turning rooms into showrooms. Objects can change as the collection develops, but the interior remains coherent through its shared palette and emphasis on repairable natural materials.

03

A country stay with room to think

Windrush suits guests who enjoy walking and cycling, but it also supports quieter visits centred on food, reading and design. Two nights allow one substantial route and one long dinner. A third makes the Maker Studio useful for writing or remote work, provided guests confirm connectivity and working requirements before arrival.
